My name is Sofia. I have been living in Serbia permanently since 2014. I am the CEO of the company Sonya Sabo Consult in Serbia, Novi Sad.

Officially, Sonya Sabo Consult has existed since 2021, but I started doing this activity as a hobby even earlier. It all started with an amateur blog on YouTube, and over time grew into a business project.

The procedure is not so expensive and does not require any special documents. A residence permit is given for 1 year (can be extended for 3 years), both to the applicant and his entire family (spouses/partners, children under 18 years old).
The price of real estate is not regulated, from 0 euros. The main thing is that the property is in a residential condition (if a new building, then a completed building). A residence permit is given for 3 years to both the applicant and his family. Important! You should check with your country's consulate in Serbia whether you, as a citizen of your country, can buy a property in Serbia. Not all countries have such an agreement with Serbia.
You can reunite both with foreigners already living in Serbia with a residence permit, and with Serbian citizens. In the first case, you receive a residence permit for the term of your partner, in the second - for 3 years.
Here everything is clear: you find a job in a company registered in Serbia and get a contract. A residence permit is given to you and your entire family for the duration of the contract. If it is indefinite, then they can give it for 3 years.
If you have a university degree, then you can apply for a residence permit based on “talent”. A residence permit is given for a year. To renew your residence permit, you will have to either get a job in Serbia or open an individual entrepreneur. Notice: you can receive a refusal, according to the decision of the inspectors (Serbia doesn’t need these kinds of specialists right now). There are few such cases, but they do exist.

One of the significant advantages is the location. From Serbia you can easily and inexpensively fly to different countries, and Belgrade Airport has become a major transport hub.
The official currency in Serbia is the Serbian dinar. You must use dinars to pay in stores, in transport, for services, and for utility bills. But unofficially the second currency is the euro. For example, be ready to pay your rent in euros. Large purchases (car, real estate, etc.) are also often made in euros.

Serbia is a southern country; it has a fairly mild climate and many sunny days. Winter is short, there is almost no snow (there is snow only in the mountains). The most comfortable period is April-June and September-November. The warm season lasts from April to the end of October. In summer, temperatures can reach +35 degrees (July-August).
Serbia is a country with a rich history and culture. Belgrade and Novi Sad and other cities host exhibitions, festivals, and you can also visit museums to get acquainted with the culture and traditions of the country.
Serbia is known for its relatively low cost of living compared to many Western countries, making it an attractive option for expatriates and retirees.
Despite its challenges, Serbia's economy has been steadily growing, offering job opportunities and potential for business development.
Rental prices vary depending on the city and location. If we are talking about Belgrade, then currently (March-April 2024), an apartment of about 40 m2 in the center and areas not remote from the city center can be rented for 600 euros (+utilities), on average.
In Novi Sad, you can rent the same apartment for 400-500 euros (+utilities), on average. In other cities the cost will be less

Since 2023, Serbia has simplified the procedure for obtaining citizenship. If previously you had to live in Serbia 5 years with a residence permit for 5 years based on “real estate”, “entrepreneurship”, “employment”, now this period has been reduced to 3 years. In terms of studies, a year is counted as half a year.
So, you live three years in Serbia with a residence permit, then you apply for permanent residence, and immediately after receiving permanent residence you can apply for citizenship.
Notice! At the moment, you can keep both passports only if your residence based on “marriage with a citizen of Serbia”, “extramarital relations with a citizen of Serbia”, roots and a few more (sports, cultural achievements in Serbia, etc. – they are rare). If your reasons are, for example, “real estate”, “entrepreneurship”, “employment”, then at the moment you must choose which citizenship you will remain with – Serbian, or, for example, Russian. You can also check this information in the embassy of your country in Serbia.
A Serbian passport allows you to travel without visas to the European Union in the 90/180 format.
